Walking Dead – Dangerous Disease

The life of fulfillment that we desire and that God desires for us (John 10:10) will not just happen! Life is filled with distractions. Many of us exist in a state of exhaustion, being over-whelmed and over-scheduled. Even though we may be involved in doing good things, if we are not making our relationship with Jesus Christ a priority, life will be infected with the deadly disease of busyness and frenzy.

Scriptures

Luke 10:38-42, Matthew 6:33 (Read)

Verse

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

Thought

In the Luke passage (Luke 10:38-42) Martha is worried about the details of hospitality during Jesus’ visit to her home…cooking, cleaning, planning. She wants everything to be just right! Meanwhile, her sister Mary is simply spending time with their guest…listening and sharing with Jesus. Martha is frustrated that Mary is not helping with the work. Yet, Jesus answers her complaint by saying, “Mary has chosen the better part…”

Questions

When you look at your schedule, are you choosing the “better part”? How does spending time with Jesus fit into your priorities?

Response

Spend time with Jesus!

  1. Establish a time. If you don’t, it won’t happen.
  2. Establish a place where you can have a few quiet moments.
  3. Establish a plan. Choose a Scripture to read and meditate on it. Share with God what’s going on in your heart, and listen. He will stir your spirit.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to make you a priority in my life. I need to hear from you! Help me to recognize the busyness in my schedule that is keeping me from putting you first. Help me to give you the “better part”! Give me the fulfillment that I long for and that you desire to give. In Jesus name, Amen.
