Top Gear – Turbo Charged

Society fuels our human inclination to satisfy our own needs. If we have a need and the ability to meet that need, then we have a right to meet that need regardless of what God says. But, when we compromise and bypass God’s will, we rob ourselves of what He wants to do in our life. There is something more fulfilling and important in life than meeting our needs…that is obeying God.

Scriptures
John 8:32; Matthew 4:1-10 (Read)

Verse
Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.’” Matthew 4:10

Thought
While in the desert (Matt. 4:1-10) Satan tempted Jesus three times. Each temptation was an offer for Jesus to receive immediate personal gratification and power, but it would have compromised God’s will and plan. Jesus did not yield to temptation, but in response he quoted Scripture saying, “It is written” and then he stated truth by quoting God’s word. Behind every temptation there is a lie that must be exposed. As your mind is renewed and rebuilt, your life will be turbo charged by the truth of God’s word. You will know the truth and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32)

Questions
How is your mind being renewed? Are you faithfully in Sunday worship? Do you read God’s word regularly? How regularly? Do you try to memorize Scripture? When you are tempted, do you have an “It is written” or are you stuck with “I know I probably shouldn’t, but”?

Response
Choose the main areas where temptation plagues you. Using the concordance in the back of your Bible (or a website such as biblegateway.com) search for Scriptures that specifically state God’s truth about the sin that tempts you. Write the verses on note cards, sticky notes, save them in your phone, or whatever works for you. Begin to commit these to memory. As they become part of your renewed mind, add to them by continuing to focus on what God’s word has to say about the things that challenge you.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, your word is truth and life and hope; yet, I probably know more song lyrics than Scripture verses. Help me to make your word a priority in my life. I know that my mind will never be renewed without the thorough cleansing of your word. Help me I pray, in Jesus name.
