Stronger—Stronger in Commitment

This is one definition of commitment: a promise to be loyal to someone or something. Nothing good happens without commitment because commitment is what turns dreams into reality. The commitments we make help define our lives and make us stronger in our loyalty to someone or something. God is looking for people He can use to make a difference in the world but there’s one big requirement: you have to be strong in your commitment to Him.

Scriptures 2 Chronicles 16:9(a); Romans 10:9; 1 Peter 1:3; Proverbs 23:12; 1 Peter 4:10; Romans 14:12; John 3:16;
2 Corinthians 5:17-20

Verse The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. 2 Chronicles 16:9(a) NLT

Thought There are five aspects of being fully committed to God and His Son Jesus Christ. To be stronger in our commitment to the God we need to: 1. Commit our lives to Jesus Christ as His followers. 2. Commit to be a member of His family through the local church. 3. Commit to learning how to be a model of the life of Christ by reading His book—the Bible. 4. Commit to be a minister of God’s grace. 5. Commit to being a messenger of God’s love. These five commitments define what it means to be a fully committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Questions How have you struggled with making commitments that would last? Which of your dreams have become a reality because of your commitment? What cost have you paid for making a commitment to follow Christ? Why do you think it’s important to make a commitment to be a part of a local church? What’s your best excuse for not spending more time reading the Bible? Where is it hardest for you to model the life of Christ: home, work or play? How would you grade yourself on your role as an ambassador of Christ?

Response Ask God to help you become more committed to Him and His Son Jesus Christ so that He can use you to make a difference in the world. Conquer any setbacks or failures by remembering God never asked us for perfection but He does ask for commitment.

Prayer Heavenly Father, help me to sense the importance of being more fully committed to you and your Son Jesus Christ. I want to be your ambassador before my family, friends and co-workers. Please use me to bring the grace and love of Jesus to them. In your name I pray. Amen!
