What do you want for Christmas this year? Christmas is a time of wonder and hope, a time for traditions, and a time of many demands and expectations. Sometimes what we say we want and what we pursue seem to have nothing in common. We want peace; yet we over-schedule and run at a hectic pace. We want joy; yet meeting the demands we’ve placed on ourselves steals our joy and drains our passion. Do we even know what we want? What is the perfect gift? God sent the perfect gift to Earth, a child in a manger. He was the Savior of the world, but he didn’t look like a savior. He didn’t arrive as the expected king. Many missed his arrival in the midst of their busyness. I wonder if the innkeeper ever realized what he missed…who he missed!
Luke 2:7; Matt 2:1-2; Jer 29:13; Luke 2:9-11; John 8:12; Matt 5:16; 1 Pet 3:15
And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. (Luke 2:7) “You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me!” (Jer 29:13)
A Christmas Story focuses on the Christmas wish of a little boy named Ralphie. He believes that if he can just get a Red Ryder BB gun, his hopes and dreams will be fulfilled. It is, in his mind, THE PERFECT GIFT! Despite the warnings of many, “Don’t shoot your eye out!” he comes close to doing just that! So often what we focus on and obsess over isn’t what’s best for us. God gave us His best, and all we need to do is seek Him, search for Him, and we will find Him! Don’t miss the greatest gift of all. Seek Jesus!
What’s the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received? What’s the best Christmas gift you’ve ever given? Has Christmas ever been a big disappointment? What is your recipe for a joyful Christmas?
Expect Jesus to show up this Christmas. Seek God and pray for Christ to be revealed to you in a miraculous way. Pray that your family and friends will experience the love and peace that knowing Jesus brings.
Lord, help me to want less of the things this world has to offer and to want more of what you have for me. Help me not to be distracted by the small and trivial. I don’t want to miss you! Guide my steps, direct my thoughts and live in my heart! I pray in Jesus holy name, Amen.
