Life is too Short to Make Excuses

When you consider your life as it is right now, can you say that you enjoy life? Do you love life? Are you experiencing life to its fullest? Often we know that there are things in our lives that need to change, but we find many excuses for staying right where we are. Scripture says that we cannot imagine what God has in store for those who love Him. However, in order to experience God’s best there are likely small or big changes that need to be made. Have you ever asked God what He wants to change in your life? You probably already know; but do you know why? Whatever it is that needs to change, God has a plan…a plan that will enrich and bring more peace, hope and fulfillment to your life. Life is too short to live less than God’s best.

Scriptures
1 Cor 2:9; Eph 3:20; Jn 10:10; Jer 29:11, 32:27; Ex 4:10-12

Verse
But as the Scriptures say, “No one has ever seen, no one has ever heard, no one has ever imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Cor 2:9) Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. (Eph 3:20) “I am the Lord the God of all living things! Is there anything too hard for me?” (Jer 32:27)

Thought
We often have good intentions when it comes to change in our lives, but under our own power we make little progress. It isn’t until we see God’s intentions that we can make significant strides in the right direction. It is God’s power than enables us to do what we cannot do on our own. When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Moses was not on board. He had many excuses regarding his lack of leadership and speaking ability. He really didn’t want to be God’s guy for this mission. However, God had an answer for all of Moses’ excuses. God gave Moses two very practical insights regarding change. “Now go! I’ll help you speak and I’ll teach you what you should say.” (Ex 4:12) First of all, go now! Don’t delay; make a move! Secondly, don’t despair, God promises to be with you and to give you what you need to accomplish the task before you. That’s a pretty solid plan!

Questions
What have you tried to change many times on your own without success? What do you need to change in your life? What do you need to change in your home? What change seems impossible to you? If you were to, “Now go!” What would that step look like?

Response
Confide in a Christian friend the change you need to make in your life. Do it now! Get someone to hold you accountable. Turn the situation over to God and pray daily, seek his power and wisdom to move forward. Remember nothing is impossible for God, and in the grand scheme of things, the change you need to make is big to you, but it is not big to God.

Prayer
Creator and Sustainer of the universe, you offer to guide me and empower me to make the changes you want to accomplish in my life. I know that you have only good in store for me. Now I surrender ______ to you. In my own power I cannot fix this, Lord. I cannot change it on my own, but I know that you are able to move in and through me to bring about the change that will bring glory to you and bless my life. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
