During the time of Gideon, the Israelites had done evil in the Lord’s sight; they worshipped other gods and abandoned the Lord God who had saved them from slavery, parted the Red Sea and fed them in the wilderness for forty years. So He handed them over to the Midianites for seven years. The Midianites were so cruel that the Israelites hid in caves and rocks to avoid them. All of their crops and livestock were taken from them. They were literally starving. Finally they cried out to the Lord God to save them. God called Gideon to lead the Israelites into battle against their oppressors and promised them victory.

Then the LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength.” (Judges 7:2) ”The LORD told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.” (Judges 7:7)

Thought
Although Gideon’s army was far outnumbered from the beginning, God asked Gideon to keep sending men home until just 300 were left to fight. Outnumbered 450 to 1, God brought a decisive and overwhelming victory to Gideon and his army. God, once again, made it perfectly clear that He’s big enough and mighty enough for whatever foe, whatever battle, whatever oppressor we may face.

How could the Israelites forget how big their God is? How big is your God? Are you worried, anxious, fearful? If so, why? Do you believe your God is able to handle anything and everything for your good and his glory?
