Echo – Reflection

Scripture was written for the benefit of Christ followers. It was not written in some mysterious code or language that must be deciphered. God’s Holy Spirit uses the Word to guide, direct, prompt and caution the believer through life. The unbeliever can understand what Scripture says but doesn’t really get it, because without faith in Jesus Christ, God’s Word seems foolish. However, to the believer whose heart is surrendered to Christ, the Scriptures are truth and life and hope!

Scriptures
Ps 24:4-5; Matt 5:8; Heb 4:13; 2 Tim 3:16-17; Jer 29:11; 1 Jn 2:27; 1 Cor 2:14-16; Pr 3:3-4

Verses
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(Jn 16:12-15)

Thought
Being a Christ-follower means believing on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. It means reading and receiving the Scriptures as truth and allowing them to affect every area of life. When we allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us by conforming our thinking and lives to God’s Word, we achieve a pure heart, pure motives and the obedience God desires, deserves and requires. This takes time, but step-by-step we are changed. Remember, the Spirit’s leading will diminish when His direction is ignored repeatedly. That is a dangerous place to be.

Questions
On a scale of 1-10 where are you in your knowledge of Scripture? How has believing the truth of God’s Word affected the way you live? How has it affected your relationships with non-believers? Why is it so hard for Christians to submit to the truth of God’s Word? Why do we struggle so much against the Spirit’s leading?

Response
Choose a passage of Scripture to read each day this week. Spend time letting it sink into your heart and mind. Ask God to guide you through his Holy Spirit to yield to His Word.

Prayer
Lord, help me to trust and obey. Convict my heart of sin and give me the strength through your Spirit to allow my life to be changed by your Word. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
