Like the first century Christians, we need power to help us live out God’s intentions for our lives. This empowering is available to us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who is the third person of the Trinity. In a supernatural way, that we don’t fully understand, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Each day of our lives, this Holy Spirit power helps us in every circumstance and situation we face.

Verse But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

Thought When we come to Christ, we have an incredible power source to plug into as the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. This unending source of power and strength enables us to be all God wants us to be and do all God made us to do. That power source is available not just on Sundays from 10 to 12 but every day of our lives until we go home to be with God for all eternity. Sadly, many Christians don’t sense any power in their lives and they hear the echo of the enemy accusing them for their lack of power to face his lies. There are two things Christ followers can do to help release the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives: renew our minds to a new way of thinking and remain in Christ.

Questions Have you ever sensed a time in your life when the Holy Spirit empowered you for something you had to do? Why do Christ followers struggle with some of their old ways of living prior to coming to Christ? Someone has said, “This battle starts in the mind.” Do you think that’s true? What spiritual practices do you do to “remain in Christ?” How do you react to this saying: “I matter to God and that’s all that matters to me?” When was the last time you tried to overcome the echo of the enemy in your own power? Do you think anyone who wants to can live a Godly life?

Response Make a commitment to live a more Godly life. Allow the power of the Holy Spirit to help you do this by renewing your thinking and remaining in Christ. Reject and turn a deaf ear to the echoes of the enemy and open your spiritual ears to the empowering echoes of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer Dear Lord, I want to live my life in such a way that it brings glory and honor to you. I’m grateful that you have sent the Holy Spirit to live within me to help me face the trials and temptations in life that try to cause me to fail. I know that I don’t have the strength or power to come against the echoes of the enemy but you do by your Spirit. I’m trusting you to help me listen more intently to the echoes of the Holy Spirit and then empowering me to face whatever comes my way today and forever. Thank you Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.
