Cross Roads of Doubt

Although Thomas had been with Jesus throughout his earthly ministry and had witnessed many miracles, he had doubts about the resurrection. His friends had seen Jesus and gave an eyewitness account, but Thomas still refused to believe without first-hand experience. He had to personally witness the risen Lord in order to believe. Jesus offered him the proof he needed. Thomas touched the nail scarred hands and felt the gash in Jesus’ side. A personal encounter with Jesus brought faith.

Scriptures
Luke 24:36-39; John 20:24-28; Matt. 7:7

Verse
Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” (Jn 20:27)

Thought
Many people experience doubt, and sometimes that is met with criticism by the religious community. For some, believing is easy, while others are skeptical, analytic and questioning. God is open to any and all questions. He is not offended or put off by the doubt of those who seek truth. The Bible has been scrutinized for centuries and has stood the test of time. It is God’s Word and it is truth. If you have doubts, seek to know the truth through faithfully reading God’s Word, experiencing worship and sharing in fellowship with Christians who can help you along the way. Don’t be stuck at the crossroad of doubt. If you don’t do “something,” you will be in the same place in a year, 5 years, 10 years. God wants to make Himself known to you—up close and personal. If you seek Him, He will reveal the truth to you.

Questions
Are you skeptical by nature? When it comes to faith in God are you more believing or doubting? How did you come to believe the truth about Jesus Christ? Do you still have spiritual doubts? Do you know anyone who is stuck at the crossroad of doubt? How would you advise them to pursue the truth?

Response
If you have doubts, identify them specifically and establish a plan for pursuing the answers. Pray that God will reveal His truth to you. Read your Bible. Attend worship. Spend time with Christian friends and talk about the doubts that are holding you back. Be relentless. Don’t get stuck at this crossroad.

Prayer
Dear God, thank you for loving me despite my doubt. Reveal your truth to me as I honestly seek you in prayer and through your word. Bring Christian friends into my life that will speak the truth to me and help me as I pursue answers to my doubts. Thank you for accepting me where I am. Lead me to a faith that is unshakeable. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
