Christmas is over and the holidays have passed and now we head into the new year. For some the new year means new beginnings and change and it’s exciting. For others the challenges, let downs, and disappointments of 2019 are hanging on and 2020 looks to be more of the same. How do you adapt and change if the new year looks to be the same as last year? The answer lies in the question whom do you trust? If it’s money, you’ll be let down. If it’s your career, you’ll be let down. If it’s anything other than God you’re headed for disappointment because idols always disappoint. An idol is anything or anyone that we put before God. Lay your idols down and put your trust fully in God in 2020.

Verse – Trust the Lord with all your heart and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in all you do and he will give you success. Proverbs 3:5-6

Thought
Trusting God is easy to say but hard to follow. It’s important to ask three important questions to check your trust in God. 1. What happens when I trust anything else more than God? 2. Why don’t I trust God more? 3. Why should I trust God completely? When we trust anything else more than God, we end up disappointed and controlled by those things. We struggle to trust God more because we don’t know him. Psalm 9:10 says that those who know the Lord trust him, because he will not leave those who come to him. Idols block us from putting our trust in the Lord. And finally, there are four reasons we should trust God completely. He always tells the truth, he loves me, he is in control and he will help me because he is completely trustworthy.

Father, I pray that you will help us to put our trust in you. Help us to confess the idols in our lives and turn them over to you. Amen.
